The king of Tejano music is widely considered to be Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, also known as Selena. She was an American singer, songwriter, and fashion designer who was considered the "Queen of Tejano music" during her career in the 1980s and 1990s. Her blend of Tejano music with pop, R&B, and disco influences helped to popularize the genre and expand its audience beyond traditional Latino audiences. Selena won numerous awards throughout her career and became an icon both within the Tejano community and in mainstream music. She was tragically murdered in 1995 at the age of 23, but her legacy as the king of Tejano music lives on.
